The average retail investor ticket size in mutual funds dropped by 3% to INR68,321 in March from the previous year, according to data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India. Conversely, institutional investors had the highest ticket size in that period, with INR10.11 crore ($1.34m) average per account. The average holding period of equity assets is higher, while equity-oriented funds averaged INR1.54 lakh, compared with INR14.53 lakh for debt-oriented schemes. However, the number of investors in the industry has increased steadily each year since December 2014, reaching 14.57 crore at the end of March.
