Climatic changes, crop damages caused by unseasonal rainfall, and diseases in cattle have resulted in increase of kitchen staple prices, say traders. Despite the centre rolling out price-control measures, sugar, milk, jeera and dhaniya prices have soared in the last week while tur, urad and chana prices have remained firm. To fill the demand-supply gap, India is importing tur from Africa and Myanmar, while urad is imported from Myanmar.
